Hokey Cokey Approach to Emotional Processing

According to research by Sonja Lyubomirsky and colleagues*, reliving our highest achievements and our happiest moments mentally, ie internally, can enhance the pleasure.  Meanwhile, when we experience the inevitable lows, it serves us better to externalise these.  This can be done by talking to someone, or writing down our feelings.  Ruminating on these is found to be unhelpful.  So, your practice for the next little while, if you choose to accept it, is to pay attention to how you’re feeling and do the hokey-cokey: You keep the positive thoughts in, the negative thoughts out… apologies for the awful vehicle for this message, but it’s going to stick, isn’t it?!
